The Kemptner Hut is a hut of the German Alpine Association in the Allgäu Alps mountian range and is situated at an elevation of 1846 m. The Alpine Club hut refuge has 190 mattress dormitory places and 100 beds in shared rooms. Small and large mattress dormitories are available, as well as 4-bed rooms, 5-bed rooms and 8-bed rooms. The refuge, built in 1891, is one of the largest alpine club huts in the Allgäu Alps and lies on the well-known European long-distance hiking trail E5 between Oberstorf and Holzgau village in the Lechtal valley. The first part of the long-distance hiking trail E5 ends at the Kemptner Hut after 3 to 4 hours walking time. Kemptner Hut is often used as a starting point for a walk along the popular “Heilbronner Weg” alpine hiking trail. A place for alpine club members in the mattress dorm currently costs 13 €, a bed 20 € (as of 06/2020) For non-club-members it costs double. There is the possibility to become an AV-member at the Kemptner Hut for a small admission fee. The neighboring huts of the Kemptner Hut are the Waltenberger Haus hut, the Rappensee-Hut and the Hermann-von-Barth-Hut. The Alpine Club Hut can be reached from several directions from the valley. From Holzgau you can reach the hut trough the Höhenbachtal valley and the Mädelejoch mountain pass. At the Mädelejoch mountain pass you can already see the Kemptner hut a little lower down. In addition, a signboard points out to the climbers that from now on one crosses the border to Germany. From Mädelejoch mountain pass there is a half an hour of descent you reach the Kemptner hut. Around the hut there are some well-known summits of the Allgäuer alps, like e.g.: Großer Krottenkopf mountain or Hohes Licht peak. The Kemptner hut is open from mid-June to mid-October.
