Augsburg Hut
The Augsburger Hut lies at 2289 m on the southern flank of the Gatschkopf mountain in the Lechtal Alps. The refuge is operated by the Augsburg section of the German Alpine Association and offers 21 beds in shared rooms, 40 mattress dormitory places and 10 places in the emergency camp. From Lechtal valley the Augsburger Hut is very difficult and technically quite demanding to access due to the long access. The fastest ascent from the Lechtal is via the 2242 m high Memminger Hut and the Spiehlerweg alpine hiking trail (rockfall hazard, technically demanding). This route takes about 7 to 8 hours from the “Memminger Hütte Parkplatz” parking space. The Augsburger Hut can be reached more quickly from the neighboring Stanzertal valley. From village Grins you can reach the Augsburger Hut in 3 or 4 hours via Gasillboden or Ochsenalm. The Augsburger Hut is connected to the Ansbacher Hut via the famous Augsburger Höhenweg alpine hiking trail. The Augsburger Höhenweg is very demanding and with 8 to 10 hours very long. North of the Augsburger Hut lies the Memminger Hut, which can be reached via Spiehlerweg hiking trail in just under 5 hours. The Württemberger Haus can be reached in about 8 hours via Spiehlerweg alpine hiking trail, Seescharte and Großbergspitze peak. The Augsburger Hut is a popular base for tours to the surrounding peaks, which are the highest in the Lechtal Alps. Most famous summits are the Parseierspitze peak, the Gatschkopf mountain, the Blankahorn mountain and the Dawinkopf mountain. A climbing garden was recently established in the immediate vicinity of the hut. The Augsburger Hut is usually open from the beginning of July to the end of September.
