Frederic-Simms Hut
The Frederic-Simms-Hut is an alpine club hut in the Lechtal Alps. The refuge of category I is situated at just over 2000 m in the Sulzltal. It lies in a very exposed position directly under the rugged walls of the Holzgauer Wetterspitze mountain. The hut was built in 1907 and has about 50 mattress dormitory places and 4 bed sleeping quarters. In the "winter room" there are 5 places available - only accessible with the Alpenverein key. The neighboring huts of the Simms-Hut are the Ansbacher Hut and the Kaiserjochhaus hut. The Kaiserjochhaus hut can be reached in about 5 to 6 hours via the Stierlahnzugjoch ridge, Klämmle, Hinterseejöchl ridge and the Kridlonscharte ridge. Ansbacher hut can be reached in 3 to 4 hours via Stierlahnzugjoch ridge. Frederic Simms-Hut is also a good starting point for mountain tours in the surroundings such as the Holzgauer Wetterspitze peak or the Feuerspitze peak. A path also leads from the Simms-Hut via the Falmedonjoch ridge to the neighboring Kaisertal valley. Please pay attention to the weather and weather conditions, as the path is often not passable!(06/2020 path is currently closed!) The easiest ascent to the Simms-Hut is from Stockach village in the direction of Sulzlalm hut. The first part of the hike runs through the forest, through the rock tunnels and then further over alpine meadows. From the Sulzlalm hut we continue to the end of the valley and then in a zigzag to the Frederic-Simms-Hut. An experienced hiker needs 2 to 3 hours for the 1000 meters ascent. The Simms-Hut is open from the end of June to the beginning of October (photos: Willi Weissensteiner).
