Hermann-von-Barth Hut
The Hermann-von-Barth-Hut is an alpine club hut in the Allgäu Alps mountain range. The refuge, built in 1900, lies at 2129 m and is thus the highest refuge in the Allgäu Alps. There are approximately 65 mattress dormitory places available and the hut is opened from mid-June to the beginning of October. The tour to the Hermann-von-Barth-Hut starts usually in Elbigenalp village at Geierwally parking space. From there the path leads to Kasermandl hut and then into Bernhardstal valley. After about one-to-one and a half hours you reach the bottom station of the material cable way to the Hermann-von-Barth hut. From here a narrow path starts and it gets steeper. Now it goes up in a zigzag underneath the material cable way to the hut. An experienced hiker can walk to the Hermann-von-Barth hut from Elbigenalp in about 3 hours. In the surroundings of the Hermann-von-Barth hut there are some impressive peaks. There are many tour options to choose from, such as the Große Krottenkopf mountain, the Hermannskarturm peak, the Wolfebner mountain and the Marchspitze peak. There are also numerous climbing routes of various levels of difficulty on Wolfebener, a summit next to the Hermann-von-Barth hut. The neighboring huts of the Hermann-von-Barth-Hut are the Kemptner Hut in the west and the Kaufbeurer Haus hut in the east. The Kemptner Hut is about 3 hours away and can be reached via the Krottenkopffscharte mountain pass. Kaufbeurer Haus hut is connected to the Hermann-von-Barth-Hut via the Enzensperger Weg mountain trail. It takes 5 to 6 hours to get there from the Hermann-von-Barth hut.
