The Muttekopf Hut lies at 1934 m near the Hahntennjoch mountain pass in the Lechtal Alps. The Alpine Club hut is with over 120 years the oldest refuge in the Lechtal Alps and is operated by the Austrian Alpine Association. Visitors to the Category I shelter are offered 20 beds in shared rooms 40 places in the mattress dormitory and 10 places in the emergency or winter dormitory. The Muttekopf hut can be reached from the Lechtal from Hahntennjoch at 1894 m via the Scharnitz saddle in two to three hours. Alternatively, you can reach the Muttekopf Hut from Imst in the Upper Inn Valley via the Untermarkter Alm in one to two hours. From Imst there is the possibility to take the Alpjoch cable car to 2050 m and descend via the Drischlsteig to the Muttekopf hut in about 30 minutes. The Alpine Club huts in the vicinity are the Anhalter hut in the north and the Steinsee-Hut and the Hanauer hut in the west. The way to the Anhalter Hut leads over the Scharnutzsattel to the Hahntennjoch mountain pass, where you cross the road and afterwards it continues along the normal path via Steinjöchl to Anhalter Hut. An experienced hiker needs four to five hours for this route. The connecting path to the Hanauer Hut is part of the Lechtaler Höhenweg alpine hiking trail and is relatively busy. The high-level trail leads over two embrasures in six to seven hours to the Hanauer Hut. Steinsee-Hut is connected through Larsenkar and Larsengrat ridge and is only suitable for especially experienced mountaineers. Muttekopf-hut is named after the 2774 m high Muttekopf mountain, the peak in the surroundings of the Muttekopf hut. The area near the Muttekopf Hut is an excellent climbing area with its climbing gardens and via ferrata. In the vicinity there are the Imst via ferrata on the 2632 m high Maldonkopf and the waterfall via ferrata in the immediate vicinity of the hut. As a rule, the Muttekopf Hut is open from the beginning of June to the beginning of October.
