Petersbergalm

Petersbergalm is an alpine pasture at an elevation of 1250 m in the rear Hornbach valley in the Allgäu Alps. The valley is known for its flat ascent and unique alpine landscape. For the hiking-tour to the Petersbergalm the starting point is the mountain village Hinterhornbach. Hinterhornbach is situated at 1101 m in the Hornbach valley, which is the only side valley of the Lechtal inhabited on the right side. Hinterhornbach can be reached via a well-developed road from Vorderhornbach. The hike to the Petersbergalm starts at the Marzelina Brücke bridge, where free parking is available. The hiking trail leads up to the Klaus bridge on a narrow asphalted road. At Klausbrücke bridge you have the choice between the footpath or the normal path, a flat gravel road. The footpath leads into the normal path at the bridge in front of the Drä-Hütten huts and the trail runs flat on the banks of the Hornbach in the forest. The gravel path begins to get steeper at the last stretch before the Petersbergalm. Altogether the altitude gain from the starting point is 150 m and the length of the hiking trail is 6 km. An experienced hiker needs one and a half hours for the ascent. Just before the Petersbergalm on the right side of the valley is the Salbbach-Wasserfall, which is worth seeing and lies between the Drä-Hutn and the Petersbergalm. The Petersbergalm is open during the summer, Monday is a day of rest (except public holiday). There is a small playground for the children in front of the alpine pasture. At the Petersbergalm, homemade dairy products such as cheese, alpine butter or buttermilk are on sale. The mountain pasture is open in summer from mid-May to mid-October. Near the Petersbergalm are some of the most famous peaks of the Allgäu Alps. On the way to the Petersbergalm lies the turnoff to the Hermann-von-Barth-Hut, which can be reached from there in 3 to 4 hours.
