The Sonnalm mountain hut lies at 1800 m at the top station of the Lechtaler Bergbahn ropeway to the Jöchelspitze. The area around the Jöchelspitze mountain is known for its magnificent flora and fauna. Sonnalm mountain hut is the starting point of several alpine trails, such as the Lechtaler Panoramaweg hiking trail or the botanical nature trail. The Lechtaler Panoramaweg connects the alpine village Bernhardseck with the Sonnalm mountain hut. The unique mountain hay museum (Bergheumuseum) can also be found above the Sonnalm on the slopes of Jöchelspitze. Sonnalm mountain hut can be reached on foot or by cable car from Benglerwald, a district of Bach. The starting point at the valley station of the Lechtaler Bergbahnen in Benglerwald/Bach can easily be reached with the hiking bus. Arrival by car is also possible. From the bottom station the path runs along a gravel road up the mountain. A fast hiker needs 60 to 90 minutes for the 600 meters of altitude difference from the Benglerwald to the Sonnalm. Sonnalm mountain hut can also be reached from Holzgau via the Schiggen. The Sonnalm is open daily during the summer from the beginning of June to mid-October. In winter the Sonnalm can be reached by mountain railways or touring skis. Especially popular is the mountain breakfast on the Sonnalm, which takes place every Tuesday from 08:00.
