Widderstein Hut
The Widderstein-Hut is a privately run alpine hut in the Allgäu Alps mountain range. It is located on 2009 m south of the Großen Widderstein mountain. The hut offers space for 28 people in the mattress dorm and is open from the beginning of June to mid-October. The Widderstein-Hut can be reached from Hochtannberg mountain pass in about an hour. From the Hochtannbergpass to the Widdersteinhütte there are still about 350 meters to climb. An ascent is also possible from Baad in Kleinwalsertal valley, from Mittelberg in Kleinwalsertal valley or from Warth village. A neighboring hut of the Widderstein-Hut is the Mindelheimer Hut, which can be reached via the Gemstelpass mountain pass in 2 to 3 hours. The Widderstein-Hut offers itself as a starting point for a mountain tour on the Großen Widderstein peak. For an ascent to the 2553 m high summit it takes 1.5 hours from the hut. There is also the possibility for a descent or a circular hike into Kleinwalsertal valley. There are several parking spaces at the Hochtannbergpass mountain pass. The Widderstein-Hut is also a popular destination or stopover for ski tours.
Despite the winter photos the Widderstein-Hut is not open in winter.
