Biberkopf
The Biberkopf is a 2599 m high peak in the Allgäu Alps. The state border between Austria and Germany crosses the summit. The Biberkopf is the southernmost peak in Germany and is particularly famous for its impressive appearance. The easiest route from the Lechtal to the summit starts in Lechleiten, a district of Steeg. Lechleiten can be reached from Steeg via Bundesestraße 198 in the direction of Warth/Vorarlberg. About 2 km before Warth a narrow road branches off to Lechleiten. From Lechleiten the ascent leads northeast past the 2050 m high Hundskopf. The path continues along a steep ridge of grass. Near the summit the rock begins and there are still some climbing places (UIAA I) to master. Rope insurance covers a short ridge. The way to the summit is partly insured and well marked. Another possible ascent to the Biberkopf starts at the Rappensee hut. From the Alpine Club hut it goes below the Rappenseekopf past the Hochrappenkopf to the Biberkopf. The last stretch before the summit follows the same route. The walking time from Lechleiten to the Biberkopf is 3 to 4 hours, from the Rappensee hut about 2 to 3 hours. Stepping safety, alpine experience and freedom from vertigo are absolute prerequisites for an ascent on all routes.
