Elbigenalp - Gibler Alm - Bernhardseck
The alpine pasture settlement Bernhardseck lies at almost 1800 m near Elbigenalp. The MTB tour from Elbigenalp to Bernhardseck starts at Hotel Alpenrose in Untergiblen. The starting point can be easily reached by car, mountain bike or hiking bus. There are also some free parking spaces at the Geierwally car park. The first meters of the tour run on an asphalted road to the entrance of the Bernhardstal. At the last houses the asphalted road leads into a gravelled goods road, which runs through the forest with a moderate gradient. In some places the forest thins out and one can enjoy a view of the Elbigenalper districts Untergiblen and Grünau. After about 1.5 km you reach the Gibler Alm, a farmed hut at almost 1210 m. The Gibler Alm is open daily from Ascension Day until the end of October, except Mondays. The path to Bernhardseck branches off to the left about 50 m before the Gibler Alm and runs in a constant gradient through a spruce forest. The last third before the finish is the steepest part of the tour. Driving is no longer possible in some places due to the extreme gradient. After about 5,5 km distance and 750 meters altitude difference you reach Bernhardseck. In the alpine pasture settlement, the Bernhardseck hut is open from mid-May to mid-November. The MTB tour from Elbigenalp to Bernhardseck is classified as difficult due to the steep section and the great difference in altitude.
