Geißhorn
The Geißhorn is a 2366 m high peak in the Allgäu Alps. The mountain lies at the border to Germany about 3 km north of Warth. The ascent to the Geißhorn can take place from Warth, from the small Walsertal through the Gemstelbachtal or from the Mindelheimer Hut. The ascent can be classified as easy and does not require any special climbing skills on the normal route. The southern ascent (from Warth) to the Geißhorn starts in Unterkrumbach, near the Jägeralp-Express valley station. The trail starts at a right turn about 500 m after the bus stop Jägeralpe in the direction of Hochkrumbach. You can easily reach the starting point with the hiking bus. The first part of the trail runs along a narrow gravel road. After about one kilometre on foot, a narrow but well-marked path branches off towards Geißhorn or Mindelheimer Hut. Just below the path lies the Hirschgehrenalpe. Continue towards Mindelheimer Hut and after a further 2 to 3 km walk you reach the turnoff to the summit at the foot of the Geißhorn. The last 200 m above sea level you reach the summit of the Geißhorn. On the summit you can enjoy the fabulous view of the surrounding peaks and the unique alpine landscape. The mountain tour from Unterkrumbach to the Geißhorn takes about 3 hours. It is also possible to climb the Geißhorn from the Mindelheimer Hut or the Widderstein-Hut. Approximately one kilometer southeast of the ascent route is the boundary stone 147, the southernmost point of Germany. Not far from the border stone is Haldenwanger Eck, the border triangle between Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Bavaria. The Geißhorn is also a popular summit for ski touring.
