Großer Widderstein
The Große Widderstein is a 2533 m high peak in the Allgäu Alps. The mountain lies above the Widderstein-Hut near the Hochtannbergpass near Warth am Arlberg. The easiest route to the summit starts at the parking lot on the Hochtannbergpass, where some parking spaces are also available. The starting point is at about 1700 m and is also connected to the bus network with the bus stop "Hochkrumbach Gh Adler". The clearly visible path leads over steep mountain meadows in the direction of the Widderstein-Hut. About 200 m before the mountain hut, the path branches off to the left towards the summit. The path leads to a steep gully in which it goes with easy climbing on the ridge. On this it then goes to the near summit of the Großer Widderstein. Sure-footedness, alpine experience and freedom from dizziness are required. The summit offers a fabulous view of the surrounding peaks and valleys. The walking time from the Hochtannbergpass to the Grosse Widderstein is 1.5 to 2 hours. On the way to the summit you can stop at the Widderstein-Hut or take a look at the nearby Hochalpsee. The little brother of the Widderstein lies a little beside the Big Aries stone, but climbing is much more difficult and only reserved for very experienced climbers.
