Karhorn
The Karhorn is a 2416 m high peak near Warth am Arlberg. The ascent starts at the Steffisalp valley station in Warth. If you don't want to climb up to the top station of Steffisalp, you can also use the cable car. The use of the Lechtal-Aktiv-Card is free during the summer months. At the top station, a path leads through grassy terrain interspersed with some rocks. It takes about 1 hour from the top station of the Steffisalp-Express to the start of the Karhorn via ferrata. If you want and have enough time, you can make a side trip to the Wartherhorn before climbing the via ferrata. The summit of the Wartherhorn is about 20 minutes away from the start of the Karhorn climbing route. The first part of the via ferrata leads through rocky but very well secured terrain with difficulty levels A to B. Due to its difficulty, this via ferrata is also suitable for less advanced climbers. Climbing equipment and helmet are a matter of course on a via ferrata tour. Also sure-footedness, alpine experience and freedom from dizziness. The walk from the start to the summit of the Karhorn takes about one hour. Once at the summit, one enjoys a magnificent view over the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps as well as the Arlberg region. The descent can either take the same route of the ascent (via ferrata) or the normal route towards Bürstegg and then back to the Steffisalp-Express. Experienced climbers can continue descending from the summit via the newly laid out via ferrata to the west (difficulty C-D). The length of the west ridge is 600 m and can be mastered in about 60 minutes. Now you can walk back towards Warth at the foot of the Karhorn or descend to Bürstegg, an alpine village near Lech. For the way back to Warth you have to plan about eineinhalb Stunden to 2h.
