Mountain tour to the Rotwand and via the Enzensberger Weg to the Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte
The mountain tour starts at the Geierwally parking lot in Elbigenalp. For a fee of 3,- you can buy a day parking ticket. At the beginning the tour passes the Elbigenalp carving school in the direction of Kasermandl. A shortcut leads over the new path through the forest, which was newly laid in summer 2020. The turnoff is signposted and is located at the last houses. When you arrive at Kasermandl, a forest path leads further towards the Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte. We follow the path to the material cable car and from here we branch off to the hiking trail in the direction of Rotwand or Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte. Alternatively, you could continue to follow the forest path here. The hiking trail leads to the end of the forest path straight through the forest. At the end of the forest path, the trail divides once in the direction of Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte and once in the direction of Rotwand. We follow the trail in the direction of Rotwand. The path leads steeply through the forest until you pass two hunting lodges. From here, the path continues uphill in steep meadows to the summit. Shortly below the summit (junction Rot Wand / Balschtesattel) you reach a rugged rocky area. Easy climbing is required, although there is rope insurance in most cases. Once you reach the summit, a large summit cross is enthroned with an extensive view over the entire central Lech valley. After a short rest at the summit and an entry in the summit book, the route leads back over the rocky terrain to the fork in the road towards Balschtesattel, where the route continues. After a short ascent, the trail branches off from the Balschtesattel in the direction of the Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte. From here the tour leads along the Enzensberger Weg to Balschtekar. After the first descent over gravel terrain, the rest of the way follows a moderate up and down through the entire Balschtekar. The path stretches a bit and the last part of the way leads again over steeper gravel terrain until you reach the cable car support of the material cable car. From here you can already see the Hermann-von-Barth hut, which can be reached in a few minutes' walk. After a leisurely stop for a bite to eat, we take the direct descent back towards Elbigenalp, where after about 1 hour of descent we return to the ascent path (end of the forest path). This is a varied and scenic day tour with wonderful views from the top of the Rotwand. The ascent from the parking lot to the Rotwand (2,262 m) takes about 3 hours. From the Rotwand via the Enzensberger Weg the walking time is about 2 to 2.5 hours. For the direct descent from the Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte back to the parking lot, you can expect a descent of about 2 to 2.5 hours. Alternatively you can descend via the Bernhardstal and the Gibler Alm - about 3 - 4 hours.
