Rotwand
The Rotwand is a 2262 m high peak in the Allgäu Alps. The easiest way to reach the summit is from the village of Elbigenalp, from where it is also the local mountain. The tour starts at the Geierwally parking lot next to the carving school. There are enough free parking spaces here. The starting point can also be easily reached with the hiking bus. From the parking lot you follow a forest road in the direction of Hermann-von-Barth-Hut. After a while you pass the snack station Kasermandl (currently closed). Shortly after the valley station of the material cableway to the Hermann-vo-Barth hut, a narrow path branches off into the forest. From here it goes quite steep first through the forest, later along a steep grassy slope towards the summit of the Rotwand. Near the summit it gets a bit rough. The last part before the summit must be covered in easy climbing, which is however insured with a wire rope. From the top of the Rotwand you have a very good view of the villages in the middle Lechtal. The walking time to the Rotwand is about 3 to 4 hours. Near the Rotwand is the Hermann-von-Barth-Hut. Stepping safety, alpine experience and freedom from vertigo are prerequisites for an ascent.
