Schochenalpsee
The Schochenalpsee is a 1970 m high mountain lake in the Allgäu Alps. The lake is located in the rear Schochenalp valley near Holzgau. Schochenalpsee has now shrunk to two smaller lakes. The larger of the two has a diameter of 30 meters and is about 4 to 5 meters deep, the smaller one a diameter of about 10 meters. The easiest way to reach the mountain lake is from Holzgau through the Höhenbach valley. At the Rossgumpenalm you continue through the Schochenalp valley, past the 3 alpine pastures of the valley. Nowadays the mountain pastures are no longer used and in the meantime only the foundation walls are left. The walking time from Holzgau to Schochenalpsee is about 3 to 4 hours. The hike takes you to the middle Schochenalpe on a gravel path, then on a marked path. The 900 meters of altitude up to the Schochenalpsee are not to be underestimated. The way from Heilbronner Weg to Holzgau leads past the lake. It branches off to Holzgau at the small crenel. On the way you pass some waterfalls worth seeing. On the way you can stop at the lower Roßgumpenalm.
