Simms-Wasserfall - Schiggen
The Simms waterfall, artificially built in the 19th century, is located in the Vorderes Höhenbach valley near Holzgau. The waterfall was built at the end of the 19th century by the Englishman Frederic Simms by blasting. The waterfall is about 30 m high and is fed by the mountain stream. For some years now, some of the water has been drained back into the original stream bed. On the right side of the valley the path leads towards Rossgumpenalm/Café Uta, so you can watch the waterfall from close up. In winter the waterfall freezes up and can be used for ice climbing. The Simms waterfall can be reached from Holzgau via a gravel path in about 20 minutes. The hike starts at the village square in Holzgau, then runs northwards in the direction of Höhenbachtal past the Gföllberg lift. After the last houses the path changes from the asphalted road to a well-maintained gravel road. After about 20 to 30 minutes you can already hear the thunder of the Simms waterfall. The hike continues towards Café Uta. The Jausenstation Café Uta will be open again in summer 2012. At the Cafe Uta snack station, a narrow path branches off towards Holzgau via the Schiggen. The entire hike takes about 1.5 hours. Alternatively you can go the same way back to Holzgau or continue to Roßgumpenalm. Since spring 2012 you can use the new pedestrian suspension bridge over the Höhenbachtal and hike over the Gföll to Holzgau.
