Steeg - Formarinsee
The Formarinsee lies at 1793 m in the Lechquellen Mountains 12 km southwest of Lech am Arlberg. Near Lake Formarin, the Formarinbach rises, which together with the Spullerbach forms the source of the Lech. South of Lake Formarin lies the Freiburger Hut, a well-known alpine club hut. In the surroundings of the lake lies the 2,704 m high Red Wall, one of the most famous mountains of the Lechquellen Mountains. The MTB tour to Lech am Arlberg and on to Formarinsee starts at 1122 m in Steeg. The first part of the tour runs along the main road to Warth. At about 1500 m above sea level you reach the turnoff towards Lech am Arlberg, where the road branches off to the left. The route from Warth to Lech am Arlberg runs slightly downwards. After 18 km you reach Lech am Arlberg, where you turn off near the town centre in the direction of Zug. The further course of the MTB tour follows the Lech to its origin. The route through the Zugertal is closed to traffic during the day, so you can ride your mountain bike undisturbed. After about 32 km and over 800 metres of altitude difference you reach the Formarinalpe and a few metres further on the Formarinsee. There is the possibility to stop at the nearby Freiburger Hut. The Alpine Club Hut can be reached by mountain bike on a gravel road. The Freiburger Hut is open from mid-June to the beginning of October. The MTB tour from Steeg to Lech am Arlberg and on to Lake Formarin is difficult due to the long distance and the great difference in altitude.
From Steeg to Lech am Arlberg the tour runs along a busy main road!
