Wilder Kasten
Wilder Kasten refers to a peak in the Peischel group in the Allgäu Alps. The ascent to the 2544 m high Wilder Kasten begins in Oberellenbogen, a hamlet above Steeg. The first section runs along a forest road that ends at a turning point. At this point a narrow path begins, which immediately leads into the forest. After a while you reach the saddle level and a hunting lodge a few minutes later. Above the saddle level a path branches off in the direction of the Wild Box (heavily overgrown). After a total of two to three hours you reach rocky terrain and the foot of the Wild Box. Here meltwater collects in a depression and forms a small mountain lake. The last part before the summit requires some climbing work and is partly exposed. An ascent of the Wild Box takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. Stepping safety, alpine experience and a head for heights are indispensable. There is no marked path on the Wild Box and finding the right path is not easy, path traces are only visible in places!
